2008 Voter Information

Registration Deadlines
If this is your first time registering in Oregon, your registration card must be submitted or postmarked no later than the 21st day before the election, October 14, 2008, in which you intend to vote.

If you are a previously registered voter, you can update your registration up until election day, November 4, 2008, with one exception (changing party affiliation before the primary).

Updating Your Registration
You need to update your registration information by filling out and submitting a new registration card if:
-Your residence address has changed
-Your mailing address has changed
-Your name has changed
-Your signature has changed
-You change your political party affiliation
-You have not voted for 5 years or more

Requirements to Register:
You are 17 years old *
You are a permanent resident of Oregon
You are a citizen of the United States

*If you are 17 years of age, you will not receive a ballot until an election occurs on or after your 18th birthday.

  • Any County Elections Office (in Douglas County this is at the Courthouse in Roseburg, (541) 440-4252 / TTY 1-800-735-2900,

  • Secretary of State's Office, 255 Capitol St NE, Suite 501, Salem OR 97310,

  • Designated DMV offices,

  • Voter registration drives in your community or
  • Designated Voter Registration Agencies,

  • Armed Forces recruitment offices operated by the U.S. Department of Defense,

  • Commission for the Blind,

  • Community Human Services, including the former Adult and Family Services Division, Senior and Disabled Services Division, and Vocational Rehabilitation Division,

  • Health Services which includes the former Oregon Health Division WIC Programs, Mental Health and Developmental Disability Services Division, Office of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs, and the Office of Medical Assistance Programs,

  • Oregon Department of Transportation,

  • Oregon University System
  • Identification Requirements

    New laws require that people must provide identifying information to register to vote. If you have a current, valid Oregon DMV Driver's License/ID, you must provide that number. A suspended Driver's License is still valid, a revoked Driver's License is NOT valid. If you do not have a current, valid Oregon DMV Driver's License/ID, you must provide the last four digits of your Social Security number.

    If you do not have a current, valid Oregon DMV Driver's License/ID or a Social Security number, you must affirm this on the voter registration card, and if you are registering by mail, you must provide a copy of one of the following:

  • valid photo identification

  • a paycheck stub

  • a utility bill

  • a bank statement

  • a government document

  • proof of eligibility under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) or the Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act (VAEH)
